‘Don’t wish your team was HOT like the Beests??’

Wildebeests 47 – 0 Stourbridge

An away day in sunny Birmingham (yes sunny!!!) led the Beests to their latest scalp in the NCA Midlands Merit League. The travelling herd were in for a tough encounter as the opponents find their first XV established in National Two (3 levels higher than ourselves).

Even the guest referee struggled to keep with the pace of the first 20 minutes. Both sides stated their intentions with the Beests trying to stretch the home side. Only to be thwarted due to good defence. The Beests were penned in their own half due to infringements at the contact situation. The Jackal failed to get on the board with an easy penalty miss. At this point the belief showed through as the Beests varied attacking options to move deep into Stourbridge’s territory. From a resulting rumble from a line out, the ‘Buss’ crashed over for the first try. The Jackal off target. This seemed to ignite the flame within ‘the heart of the Beest’ and debutant Bantum made another incisive break, which linked both, forwards and backs before West dived in at the corner ala Cohen. The Jackal nudged the conversion.

Spirits were high at the break, as the good defensive platform had stifled any attacking opportunity Stourbidge tried to create. After grazing at the watering hole, the Beests set about exploiting the expansive plains of the immaculate Stourbridge pitch.

The half started at a frantic pace as the Beests ripped into their opponents and turned over plenty of ball!!! The forwards showed their dominance, which allowed the halfbacks to dictate the game. Backs and forwards ran some textbook running lines to break the gain line (too many to mention all names). A loose kick from the Stour 15 allowed the Jackal to start a counter attack. After a couple of passes S-bend touched down near the corner. Another Jackal nudge. This cut the home team deep but spurred the Beests on further. The ‘Buss’ added his second with a swift burst of pace to evade oncoming defenders. Another Jackal nudge. Dancing Pete led another charge but tried to round the winger instead of using the 5 passing options available. S-bend nearly added a second from a cross-field kick but ended up leaving the pitch injured. Enter young Tizard, fresh from his 18th birthday party the night before.

Another try went begging when Wigley just failed to collect a cross-field penalty kick. From the resulting play, deep in the Stour 22, spectators were treated to a stampede. Stand in chief Beest Normski split the defence to score under the sticks. Another Jackal nudge. Another Bussell-Bantum combination created a massive hole on the blind side allowing Tizard to show his attacking skills match his defensive qualities. A well-deserved debut try which the Jackal converted. There was just enough time for one more piece of magic. A Bussell break in open play allowed Normski to get hold of the ball. The rest is history. The Jackal added the nudge.

The thong was his well deserved prize for being 18, allowing himself to be kidnapped by the beests, debuting and scoring on debut, and he wore it well.....
