Good job that they did not trust their kicker too (and that they kept dropping passes). |

OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS 17-19 DERBY
A disappointing defeat at Billing Road against fellow strugglers Derby put the ONs into the bottom three of the league. Derby took full advantage of the ONs sluggish start hitting the post with a penalty kicking the next one and then scoring a converted try all within 10 minutes of the beginning of the game. After a second successful penalty had extended the lead the ONs at last began to play with some conviction launching a series of attacks but the defence held firm until just before the break WILL KINGSTON touched down to make the score 13-5.The second half began as the first had ended with the home side putting Derby under intense pressure with a combination of staunch resistance and errors at crucial times preventing an ONs score until CARL BURGESS burst over after the ball had been moved across field and back again to create the gap. The conversion was missed but the Derby full back had no such problems kicking two further penalties to extend their lead. The ONs inexplicably turned down a kickable penalty opting for a kick to touch, the lineout was disrupted allowing Derby to clear but their defence was again breached as CHARLIE BARKER went over and added the conversion to bring the ONs within two points and that was the way it stayed as the home side failed to convert their late superiority into points with poor execution and composure. A game that the ONs could and should have won but all credit to the determined Derby defensive effort.

good job we have a goal kicker (who i think is either a kiwi or auzzie!)in spite of the great result it was a game that they should have won tho lost it themselves

Spirit in the last 10 minutes was brilliant. Well done.
Assume they have a few Kiwis, who seem not to understand that 3 points are enough if you are losing by 2!
