Well done to centre / full back Rich Maddocks for volunteering to play in the 2nd row alongside occasional (and reluctant) Colts 2nd row Charlie Woodward against Newark. Also to Jon Mabbitt for playing at number 8. With 2 late 2nd row cry-offs it was a credit to the 8 forwards who played that we did not concede about 10 rolling maul tries against the much bigger Newark team.

(Also credit to Alex Poyser who got under the ball on the try line on no less than 4 occasions!)

I'm sure the Devs will soon return to winning ways.

Report from Newrak's website:

Newark III v Derby III, home - 3rd XV Pennant.
Won 29-10. Scorers: Tries; Chris Perry (2), Alex Jackson, Will Orrey.
Kicks; Pete Cook, 2 cons, Dave Watson, 1 con, 1 pen.
Newark 3rds rescued some pride from the afternoon by inflicting a rare
29-10 defeat on Derby 3rds at Kelham Road.
The Newark pack, especially the front 5 put on a terrific display,
continuously denying Derby the ball as well as dominating the scrums and
lines-out and it was only a determined defence which held them up over the
line on several occaisions.
Duncan Coote and Chris Perry, who scored two tries, were again the pick of
the forwards whilst youngster Darren Turlokowsky shone in the backs.
Alex Jackson and Will Orrey added Newark's other tries whilst Pete Cook
put over 2 conversion and Dave Watson added one and a penalty.

12 personnel changes and 3 more positional this week for the Devs has got to be a record, but gives them probably their strongest line up of the season against the strong Leicester Lions side.

I reckon a win for the Beests and the Devs is on the cards.
