The beests won a tough encounter against a much "improved" Burton side at the Crofters home ground. 6 Tries and 2 conversions completed the scoring. Barbara had a great game, contributing to many long range efforts, and a couple of tries!

Burton 10 Derby Wildebeests (and their Beer Chest)34
A cold, but bright, day saw The Beests warming-up as they watched a Burton squad of 22 going through their paces. Unfortunately for Burton they were only permitted 15 on the pitch at any one time, and that was not enough to better the Beests.
The Beests set off at a brisk pace only to have the Burton winger make an interception in his own 22 and run the length of the field to score: Burton 5 Derby 0 Stung into action by this, the Beests upped their effort, and the forwards drove over for a try, that could really be claimed by all 8. Headlights added 2 with the nudge: Burton 5 Derby 7. More good work from a dominant pack saw Kenty blast over, though this time the 2 points were not added. Normski was the next on the scoreboard, again the conversion going wide. The Beests were all over Burton at this stage and Creswell Coaches, encouraged by having his own advertising hoarding at the ground, destroyed the opposition to cross the whitewash. Burton 5 Beests 22. Normski carried on this rich vein of form and blasted the Burton boys of the field with another try, this time converted by Headlights: Burton 5 Beests 29. At this juncture the ref blew for half-time, and as the Beests gathered at the watering hole, Burton unleashed their subs. The second half got under way with Headlights going over in the corner to make it Burton 5 Derby 34. Alas that was the last of the points for the Beests, as Burton got back into the game. The Beests came under the cosh for most of the second half, as Burton's fresh legs began to tell, and Creswell Coaches and Cocks retired hurt to be replaced by Adam and Rich Mad Dog. However Burton only managed to score once, making the final score Burton 10 Beests 34. The pleasure in victory was diluted by a nasty injury to S-bend in the last minute when he snapped his achiles tendon. We wish him all the beeest.
Quote of the week is from the very atractive youg lady who plastered S-bend's leg: when she was gently fondling his leg, I said that if news of this got out she would have the whole team down next week. she replied : " If I thought that was true I'd work for nothing!"
(Squad: Wiggley, Lucas, Bussell, Collier, Spencer, Maddocks P, Robinson, Rob, Wilcox, Kent, Mills, Goodman, West, Cox, archer, Adam, Maddocks R)

I think technically the forward try was either Arch or Owen, or possibly Kenty, Pete, Rob, Goody, Mills (unlikely), Cocks or Bus. I hope that sorts that out. |

Hey, can someone post the link to the Burton match report on here - can't seem to find it - has it been censored? Also, it was Owen who scored the other try, with an assist from me - technically we both touched it down but after last years 'paper scissors stone' debacle, I don't want to fight. Is this what it sounds like, when the Beests win...Classic...
