Calling all Colts tourists. We would like to have a short meeting to agree certain things for the tour (dress, hats, tour song, forfeits etc. - there are lots of ideas but need to pick a few things and stick to it). Next Saturday's game is 2.00 K.O. (home to Bakewell in Derbyshire Cup, last chance for a trophy this season) after which we can watch the end of the first team game, then head upstairs for food, drink and meeting.
Could even have a trial run at some of the drinking contests

Sounds good about the meeting and drinking! I hope we can pull this game off with a win. Just realised that our Sunday game we were without a leader in the forwards which may have been responsible for our multiple 'colour' balls when really we should've been winging the ball out wide. I do think the leadership thing is crucial to the forwards, as you don't hear sweet FA from the backs whilst rucking and mauling. I guess than means more bossing Alex!

Also, cheers for giving us a go at 8. I realise that my fitness needs to improve if I'm to be considered there in a competitive situation so I'm planning to do something about that. Also started feeeling more confident with the foot technique but there is a way to go yet!

I have to agree with you Dickie a piss up on the cards i hope!

On a differnt note : I think that there are a few new players ( not that this is meant to be deconstructive) who although are good players need to go back to basics. As every time they took the ball in, it seemed to get turned over, where as the 'old dogs' of the team seemed to get turned over rarely, if at all. Just something I noted, and feel could be improved on in the team as a whole.

I have to say I feel Alex played well at 9 on Saturday as he has done for many a match before. I think he tells you exactly what he wants, which spurs me on at least. I do feel that the people past him could be more vocal if they want the ball out, and abit like Line Outs etc. I think there should be a key phrase which Alex and the backs shot, when they want it. This would make it easily distinguishable from the general chit chat and shouting. Maybe a random phrase is in order...'BEAVER' , 'SLICK' or 'MAIZE' could all be shouted by Alex as they are easily recongnisable even in a ruck situation and tell teh forwards what is coming?!

What do you think?!

You have a good point Jake, I too find it encouraging when Alex is at the back of a maul giving out player-specific instructions as which gap to fill, where the maul is going to roll etc. The 'old dogs' thing is partially true, but we are all guilty of making mistakes. I lost the ball following one 8 pick up for sure. What was said about forming a forward umbrella around Alex for penalties was true also, it just didnt seem to sink in that our brash charges forward weren't working. At least we the forwards did support each other; it's just inevitable that the ball is lost in those conditions after long periods.

About the calls, I like it and also think that whoever is playing at 10 should be far more vocal also. This isn't to say that Tom doesn't give plentiful instructions to forwards in his line, he gives me good instructions as to exactly where he wants me when I'm hanging back (or being lazy to some). I just feel that the communication between backs and forwards wasn't grand the other day.

On the other hand. piss up please!

I think you will find the call is mayday an i was shouting it a least twice ( it did come out once) an ryan shouts it about 100 times a game (at least i think thats what hes shouting) but agree need more talking from the 9/10 so gel the forwards and backs it sometimes feels like two different teams forwards and backs and the forwards dont mind what the backs do as long as they can say "well we did alright" and vice versa. Just something i noticed espically since ive moved between the two! have to admit i didnt have a good game but thought dickie played very well like a true back row forward in the first half but was let down fitness wise second half. Alex also deserves a mention for good distribution! Schucksmith appears to be a natural open side flanker. Think we missed michael and simmo espically although no one (apart from myself) had a bad game. Im thinking if i perform too often like i did saturday i may struggle to hold place in the starting lineup (cue abuse that i shouldn't be there anyway). Also am off to hospital tomoro to have arm xrayed as have weird shooting pain an have been hold to have it xrayed :(

finally in my proper place!

Charlie, you've not quite got the hang of the smilies methinks!

What excellent constructive comments, almost makes me feel guilty about writing a fairly brief match report!

Yes turnover was too high - as are the body positions of one or two players going into contact - Jake sets a fine example of ball protection. 8 forwards + down on Thursday night and I'm sure Picko can have you all following Jake's style in no time.

Yes Matt S had an excellent game and ran his socks off, 7 is definitely the right position for him, but we can't expect top notch positional play, contact skills and defensive lines from him when he's only played there for about 6 weeks.

Leadership in the forwards... I can feel an unpopular positional change coming on that might help in that respect .

Communication - yes Mayday is the call to get it wide, unfortunately C5W is right and Ryan shouts it that much he is like the 'boy who cried wolf' and gets disregarded (do I have to explain that one??). "Two away" is another we've talked about for turnovers, and 10 should be informing the forwards whether the ball is intended to go wide or stay midfield (better not reveal those calls in case some Bakewell spies are reading ).

All the 'big guns' should be back for Saturday, hopefully playing on 1st team pitch before 1st team game (may be 1.30 K.O. to allow that) with a bigger crowd to watch. Cue best game of the season for all players!!

Yes, lets go for a bit of practice drinking, which means leaving your car at home Jake, Dickie etc. Make it come from you guys at training, not from me!

Yeah what is this change about? Also, hope you get your arm sorted Charlie. I'm right up for a quality training session now, need to implement this discussion. Anyway who was doubting Shucksmiths play? I thought he was awesome!

As you will no doubt have seen after training (yes Charlie was training on Tuesday - time a few others did too) the team is listed as 'from' but there is a hint in the placement of names in the list. (Might have to change your signature again!!) However, all could change before the weekend! Dickie (and others), find the selection page on the website and you'll see it.

Yes Shucksmith had a great game (as I said), I was merely using him as an example (unfairly in hindsight as it looks like I'm singling him out) of one of Snake's 'new dogs'. No offence intended!
