The weekend has been summed up by the fact that having just written the match report it has mysteriously wiped itself out. I can't be bothered to rewrite it tonight, so you'll have to wait till tomorrow.

All is not lost.... WE ARE STILL TOP

Leicester Lions scratched their fixture against Old Pats, and have forfeited the points, which means despite the loss, we are still top!!!

The Beests took to the Serengeti on a windy, but nice afternoon, hoping to put the defeat against Old Patesians behind them.
The Herd was somewhat depleted as the 1st team had pinched a few, but with the return of Hutch and Riley things were not all that bad. Anyway a team desperate enough to have Bonkers playing for them surely couldn't be that good.

The Beests elected to play with the wind in the first half and Hutch was soon on the board with a well struck penalty. Cheltenham, who had a distinct edge up front in the tight, struck back with a try that they were unable to convert.
Some good pressure from the Beests pack set up a position on the right about ten yards out: Ratty fed Headlights on the blindside, and he dived over to score. Hutch added an excellent nudge in the high wind.
Not long after this an almost identical move produced the same result, though this time Hutch was wide with the nudge.
The Blond Bombshell nearly stole in at the corner after a clever cross kick from Disraeli, but was just forced into touch.
Just before halftime Cheltenham struck back with a converted try, leaving the match finely poised at 13 - 12.
At the interval Dancing Pete was replaced by Arch, and The Blond Bombshell by Riley.
The second half got under way with some BLISTERING 15 man rugby by the BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESTS. Kentos Kentos Ghali and The Poser soon joined the stampede and some lovely play saw Goody Threeshoes break out of a maul and hare over the line. Hutch added the 2 points. Almost from the restart some more attacking rugby saw Rod slice through to score near the posts, and bang: Hutch added 2 more.
The champagne was really flowing now and some more good interpassing saw Joe Mills gallop over for the first try of his illustrious career at the club. Hutch missed with the loft conversion, but heck who cared we were home and dry, 32 - 12 up with 15 minutes to go

Oh Dear

The last 15 minutes of the game saw Cheltenham score 21 unanswered points. The Beests fell asleap, making tactical errors and showing a lack of discipline that were to cost us dear. The final whistle blew as a Cheltenham conversion sailed between the posts:
The final score Beests 32 Cheltenham 33
The team were devastated, but really only had themselves to blame. Hopefully lessons were learnt: never relax before the final whistle, stay composed and keep your discipline. The fact that the backline had never played together (OR TRAINED TOGETHER) as a unit was probably crucial: when under pressure the understanding wasn't quite there. It is an interesting statistic that we conceded 5 tries in the game; in our previous 6 league games we only conceded 3.

Congratulations to Cheltenham who fought back when other teams would have folded, at least their band of travelling support had something to cheer about. It was also nice to see many of our first team supporting the beests.

(Squad: Muir, Lucas, Campbell, Robertson, Gandolfo, Hutchinson, Ratcliffe, Cormack, Wilcox, Erwin, Goodman, Mills, Moore, Bussell, Cox, Poyser, Kent, Archer, Riley)
