Better late than Heather! That reminds me - can you believe Heather Mills-McCartney wants £25m from Paul? Personally, I think it's prosthetic! Ahem. Onto the match report...

After being humbled by Leicester's Lions last week, the Beests attempted to put the Beesty train firmly back on the tracks as they welcomed Walsall to the Haslams Serengeti on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon.

With a thorough warm-up behind them, Hutch was invited by the referee to initiate the afternoon's proceedings. As the kick did not reach the required 10 metres, Walsall gained immediate possession of the ball with a scrum on the halfway line. The very first Walsall attack was repelled by some huge Beesty smash, with Coombsy leading the d-line with some punishing lockerisation.

It would be fair to say that the initial exchanges were dominated by the Beests, impressive in breaching the Walsall lines on many occasions. It was from a clean break by the centre Brown that the Beests were first on the chalkboard, releasing captain Eldie man with about 1 metre to go. The big man made no mistake, crashing over the whitewash and giving the Hutch an easy nudge for deuce. Beests 7, Walsall 0.

The second Beest try was not nearly as impressive in style, but just as deadly in execution. Good play by the Beest backs ensured that Walsall were pinned back in their own 22, and from the ensuing Walsall lineout the visiting hooker lost his radar, missing his jumper (and indeed the lineout itself) by a good few feet, allowing Jody "F*ck me, I'm on time" Else to clear up at the tail, infiltrating the Walsall in-goal area like the SAS storming the Iranian embassy for the five-pointer. Again, Hutcho Libre made no mistake with the conversion, splitting God's great 'H' and bringing the score to 14-zip to the Beests.

Despite the difficulty in handling given the weather, both teams were showing ambition with ball in hand, and the Beests were denied two further clear cut tries by the referee (both for forward passes) before Hutch chose to use a penalty to add to the Beesty lead, kicking like a braying mule to make the score 17-0 Beests.

Before the half-time whistle blew, Walsall mounted severe pressure on the Beesty line. Despite some valiant defending by the Knights of the Muurrrrgghh Table, Walsall scored an unconverted try.

With the half-time score at 17-5 Robin made one tactical switch, bringing on the back row colossus Archer for the back row colossus Smart. The Beests wanted more of the same in the second half, concentrating on shutting Walsall out.

As it turned out, the Beests needn't have bothered with this, as the Walsall 10 was perfectly content to make sure that they wouldn't score again, kicking away most pieces of possession that he had. The Beest lineout was looking solid on their ball, and was starting to disrupt Walsall's throw-in too, neutralising Walsall's negative tactics.

Indeed, as legs became tired and the weather started to take its' toll, the second half passed without much incident, save for a few moments of individual Beesty magic. Bullocking runs from the base of the scrum from Archer, the sublime running skills of the Beest back three and the dominance of midfield by the half backs ably supported by the pack meant that Derby had the Beests (not lions – boooo!) share of possession and territory, which set up the final score of the afternoon.

From a Beesty lineout on the Walsall 22, Simmo found his jumper with the double top. Walsall disrupted the initial surge, but could do nothing as Dave "I'm just a love machine, feeding my fantasy" Bussell rampaged his way over the line like a hunting knife through a cheap Decathlon tent. Just before the final whistle, Hutch blotted his copy book by missing the nudge, leaving the final score 22-5 to the Beests.

Although not the most polished Beest performance, it was certainly a tonic from the previous week's show at Leicester. The Beests will take much heart from this win, moving forward into next week's game at home to Lichfield.

And now, time for episode 2 of "Joe Mills: Wedding Planner". This week, Joe is sorting out the reception finger buffet.

"Hello, Subway? I'd like a 6-foot Meatball Marinara please. Oh, and I'll have another one for the reception. Thanks."

Next week, Joe goes ring shopping. Stay tuned!
