After last weeks battling performance against a far superior South Leicester 2nds the Dev’s again found themselves on the road with a difficult fixture on paper against a Mellish 2nds team who currently stood top of the table.

Derby had started most games this year very poorly and thus given themselves a massive uphill battle to salvage anything from each of these fixtures. With the toss won by the returning skipper Zoolander, Derby choose to play down the slight slope with the strong wind at there backs it an effort to eradicate this fact.

This was not to be, failing to clear the lines at critical times and not playing in the opposition half lead to three tries in total 17 points being scored by Mellish in the first fifteen minutes.

However after this major setback the Dev’s started to play more logically and fought back with two tries from Ryan Milton before half time. This was reward for some determined play from all quarters and brought Derby back into the game to be only 7 points down at halftime.

The second half was ended nil-nil with every derby attack up the slope being repelled well by the opposition and the ball regularly cleared back 50 to 60 meters down field for the process to start again.

The Final Score 17-10, a close fought game which the Dev’s should really have taken but nevertheless a good performance that can hopefully be taken forward to future fixtures.
