‘I bet you look good when the BEESTS win!!!’
Wildebeests 19 – 6 Stourbridge
The first home fixture of 2006 saw the Beests entertain National league 2 side, Stourbridge in another NCA match. Following last weeks win against Leicester Lions; victory would keep the beests firmly in the top 2 positions (not sure if we’re top??) Yet again the Beest team showed several changes from the previous week.
The opening encounters were fraught as Stourbridge showed their intentions. After a big defeat at their place, a much bigger pack tried to work several openings through close forward play. In most cases the Beest defence stood up to the test. Occasionally our enthusiasm to make the big hits left us just off side but Stour failed to capitalise. Some great Barbara ball produced an opening for Bonker-tron to nearly score from 60 yards. The Blonde Bombshell nearly crossed the whitewash from the other wing. From the penalty, Ratty nudged us 3 ahead. This was the call to play. The next 15 minutes saw the Beests dominate open play. Quick ball released both forwards and backs to break deep into Stour’s half. One attack nearly saw Bonker-tron lockerised by their inside centre, but he just opened the locker, brushed himself off and carried on with the game. After some handbags at dawn (cheap shots – Buss; how’s the head?), Stour conceded another penalty. This time Ratty hit the post. A cross-field kick collected by the Welsh Wizard nearly brought the first try. The Beests only other points of the half was another Ratty penalty. The last 10 of the half were spent in our own 22. Stour showed some of the calibre by retaining possession and recycling phase after phase. The Beests showed why they’ve conceded very few points this year with some MASSIVE ‘D’ to stop them crossing the line. Their only reward, a penalty kick.
While at the watering hole, squad rotation took place and discussions of were the herd could improve. The half started really well with the Beests camping on the Stour line. Spirito-de-Punto Puncho took a beating for the team, which saw the Stour prop taking an early shower. From the scrum, Buss cut across field and Lord of the Wings stepped inside to cross the line. Ratty added the nudge. Stour then spent time getting back into the game and probed the Beest line. No gaps were left and once again, MASSIVE ‘D’ saved the day. Their only reward was another penalty. The final 15 was a scrappy affair. Firstly the ref intercepted a great move to stop a certain score, then some negative play at the breakdown stopped the Beests dominating. This resulted in 2 further Ratty nudges to stretch the lead to 19-6. The game ended with the Stour hooker being yellow carded for foul play. Unfortunately that’s what happens when you’ve been on the blue Smarties and get out played. So kids keep off the Smarties, it affects your game!?!?!?!
As people return to fitness, selection will prove interesting over the next few weeks. This will only make the Beests stronger as the end of the season draws near. Roll on Newark away next week!

PS – Have you heard the one about the overweight Samoan prop that kept a centre quiet all game??

Nice to see that Sourbridge Ringers First XV lost too! (To Launceston). Probably found that Cornish Farmers could punch a lot harder than they could. Well done to all The BEEEEEEEEESTS for not letting the discracefull display from the opposition unsettle them.

Could somebody please explain to me why Stourbridge thought we were on the serengeti to spar with them??
Firstly - they couldn't punch properly (if you don't believe me look at Buss and Spirito's heads, not a mark in sight!!)
Second - who put them in with the heavyweights? We eat people like that for breakfast
Finally - what was the final score and how many men did you have left on the pitch???

Belting result fellas, I hear that there was a unanimous decision at the end of 12 rounds in favour of Buss and Spirito. On the rugby front, offensive flair and defensive smash won out the day. I love you guys!

Thought some of you may be interested in the following report in THE STOURBRIDGE SUN
DASH FOR DUMMYS Reports are coming in of a run on dummy sales at Mothercare. It is rumoured that Stourbridge Ringers RFC are seeking replacements for all those that were hurled from prams in a recent trip by "The Terrible Twos". Angelo Dundee, The Terrible Two's minder, said that on a recent trip to the Serengeti, the poor little things had been frightened by a herd of Wildebeests, and had hurled their dummys from their prams whilst having a collective tantrum. Ashley Humphreys, Conservative MP for Stourbridge South, said that though he appreciated something should be done to help retarded children, surely execution would be cheaper for tax-payers than expensive trips to Africa........ |

If they can find someone to read it to them, those Stourbridge folk might get a trifle riled by some of the comments on this thread.
Top win though Beests. I must pop down and offer some touchline support some time soon.
