Can't believe the Beeests had 2 whippets on the bench and didn't use them. A quote from a 2nd team forward indicated that the opposition were getting the ball out wide!! Why the f22k didn't the Colts get on.
Selection policy is going awol. I think the 1sts got it wrong as well!!! Discuss.

| Of course I could not possibly comment either. I shall (unusually) keep a diplomatic silence. |

‘Muuuuurrrrrggggghhhhddddddeeeeeerrrrr on the dancefloor!!’
Wildebeests 21 – 34 Loughborough Freshers
The Beests entered a run of home fixtures with a loss to a well-drilled Lufbra team. Following the epic win in midweek, the question was whether a repeat performance could be conjured. Unfortunately this was not to be.
The Beests started quite brightly but failed to break a solid midfield defence. A couple of good penalty opportunities were wasted as the Jackal kicked more like a jackass!! Lufbra were making better use of their greater possession but lacked the killer touch. Some good recycling led to the first score. A penalty close to the line allowed the Jackal to be bundled over the line by the pack. His nudge attempt was a shocker. Then Lufbra found their killer instinct. The usually tight Beest defence was breached on several occasions through poor communication and sloppy tackling. This resulted in the students scoring a couple of well-deserved tires to leave the Beests trailing. The Beests scrum was putting tremendous pressure on the opposition and disrupting the forwards-backs link. Unlike Wednesday, the students were able to disrupt Beest possession at the lineout. This meant the half finished with most of the action taking place well clear of either try line and the students leading.
Discussions at the watering hole centred on controlling the game to allow a fight back. It would also be interesting to see how the Beests would cope against a fitter team. Early signs looked good as the Beests took the game to Lufbra. Mucas (Headlights) was able to direct operations from nine. This created spaces in midfield for Normski and Bussell to break the gain line. The Beests scored again when the Jackal intercepted on the twenty two to scamper over. Mucas added the nudge. Decisions at the breakdown were hard for the ref to interpret due to the speed of both back rows. Mucas obliged with a penalty for handling in the ruck. With plenty of time left on the clock the Beests were within a score. Another lapse in concentration and an overlap allowed Lufbra to break through the midfield and score. The Beests then spent about 10 minutes pressuring the Lufbra line. Their solid tackling and discipline stopped any tries. Two further penalties at the breakdown were nudged by Mucas. Entering the last five minutes the Beests trailed by six and had their sights set on victory. Lufbra relieved some pressure by turning the Beests deep into their own 22. A speculative attack from their own line resulted in Gandolfo becoming isolated and Lufbra adding another score to end hope of victory. Credit to Lufbra who on the day were the better team.
This is the first time this season the Serengeti has witnessed a defeat this season. This result will keep our hoofs firmly planted on the ground with 8 games to go. Tough games like this one can only bring the herd closer together as the season nears the end.

Good to see that final comment after some comments being heard that we should not have taken this match on. Better to play a decent contest against a side whose style you are seldom going to see during the season, than to choose to play a team like Stafford who drop at at midday on Saturday!!
No doubt the efforts of Wednesday took their toll, but I'm sure both games were better to play in than many of the canters that have taken place in the last 2 seasons. (Shame no game time was found for the replacements though ).
I for one would say lets play them home and away next season. Any views? |

Happy to take them on home and away next season ( though I may be playing vets by then!) Wednesday probably did take its toll on some of the younger lads who couldn't handle 2 games in 1 week, not like when we were lads , eh Oldcorn, friendly on saturday, cup on sunday

Just to make myself clear: I never suggested that we should play someone easy. I said that we should not have played anyone. |

Sorry peeps not had much time on the pc lately but I have to stick my oar in.
If we are playing a friendly why not give the replacements a chance. Especially as they are the future of the club. We have moved on in the last 2 years and Colts are getting their chances ( and proving themselves )I think not to play them this weekend has sent out the wrong message.
