A good performance by all, in a bit of a bad tempered match, saw Derby come out on top 56-38.
Standing out on the day had to be Davy Thomas, who must have dump tackeld at least 6 of the oppostion, made strong runs forward, hit his man in the line (mostly) and won two against the head. One of those was close to the half way line, it was picked up by Booya who ran in from 40 yards with the help of a couple of outrageous dummys. Making superb ground on the day was Alex Poyser, who came away with two tries and Paylor, again with 2.
The 4th team were also blessed today with normal stand-in chief beestie, Norm, stepping up to new heights in his playing career.
Awesome interplay between all the backs ran Mansfield ragged, although I have to admit they were strong up front and very good running around the fringes.
The other scorers were Col Warden, Norm (with the aid of a dummy kick - obviously), Rob Higgins. Scott Johnson weighed in with 2 penalites and 5 conversions to leave the final score at 56-38.
Thanks to all the subs for turning out, sorry you weren't given the usual half!
That takes Booya to joint top of the try scorers with Big Hos on 14, with Dancing Dave close behind on 12.
Scott leads the points scorers with 187 - let's hope he can break the 200 mark next week!
In the 26 games this season, we have now won 20. Of the 6 we have lost we have avenged 2 (Burton and Mansfield), Ashfield and Ranby return matches were cancelled and we have got Melbourne towards the end of the season (oh yeah - and the Colts don't count, but we will beat them next year!)
We have scored 939 points and conceded 344, and 15 players have made more than 15 appearances. Daz, Booya and Scott have all made it past the 20 appearances and with luck another 10 will by the end of the year - do we qualify for fancy dan club ties?

Well done Tim and the lads . Loomsy tells me the Devs played Mansfield 2s, (and it was meant to be a Pennant game), so you may have played their 3rds (mind you Mansfield 3rds, 4ths and 5ths are usually about the same).
I shall refrain from retorting to the comment about the defeat against the Colts (but its difficult ). No doubt Jon Tiz will weigh in instead !! |

It was a pleasure to play for you Tim, count me in for 2 weeks time ( as long as its at home).......... Great performances in a game dominated by 2 contrasting styles of play.. The bludgeoning from the 2 x 4 like mansfield pack against the fine architraved skirting from the hand crafted Derby(your team needs a nickname) backs

| Norm - I imagine Coalville are shaking in their boots at the thought of all those dummy kicks! Better still if we are lucky we might get the Ranby Prison Match rearranged for that week or the week after. Fancy playing some Prison Rules rugby? |
