Folks, you'd have to have seen it to have believed it. But who outscored Rod Muir, Darryl Banton, Preecey, the Jackal, Buss, Arch, Kanye West and Goody? Alec Jardine. 7s genius, including in a very cheeky nudge collector.
I've name checked him now, so any 7s banter can continue to slag him off.
Love,
Arch.

Not good I understand, and also only able to raise one team. As per last year it seems the organiser (PB this time) has been let down by people who say yes then think better of it.

Unfortunately that will probably mean we will not host the event next year. (Also entry fee wasted and no-show deposit lost.)

It's poor that we could only get 1 team. I would have been there, but I tore my groin yesterday, and was unable to play in the second half. I'm also not available for next weeks cup final ( though It would be nice if I could bench, and hobble around for the last 2 minutes as a swan song!

I owe a big apology to PB and the club for my non-participation today! No excuse, just completely forgot until PB phoned me this afternoon!

Despite only fielding one team, we did OK.
We lost the first game (vs. Rolls Royce - but we don't speak about that) 17-14 after giving them a 17-point headstart. We then destroyed Ilkeston 3s before losing to Chesterfield's arm of the Rotherham academy 5-0. We won our final game against North Derbyshire, which meant we finished 3rd in our group, behind Rotherfield and Rolls Royce (but we don't speak about that).
This meant that we went no further in the competition, as there was a knockout for 1st and 2nd placed teams, and a knockout for 5th and 6th placed teams. Nothing for 3rd and 4th - RUBBISH!
'Ilkeston' 1s won the tournament very easily - deserved as they had the best stash, and had 10 ringers from Nottingham. The best banter all day was Kenty, Walshy and myself debating with some Ilkeston alikadoo that if we came down to Ilkeston next season, they would all be playing there. National Div 1 to Bograt level 4 - can't see it myself.
Big hand to the guys who stuck around to make sure Derby Uni 1s and 2s could fulfil their semis - they won both, and set up an all-Derby Uni final, which saw the most awesome display of touch n' pass the crowd had ever seen. Derby 2s sneaked home after I missed a drop goal in the dying seconds of the game.
A good day out - thanks to PB for getting it sorted. Shame we don't take sevens a bit more seriously really, lot of enjoyment to be had, develops players' ball handling, attacking and defensive skills, and uncovers previously unseen talent.

To be fair it was essentially a Matlock Academy side that were trampled in the Wildebeest migration, who had struggled against the Derby Academy earlier in the month.

I feel a new set of names coming on for next years teams. Stags, Academy, Thirds......any others?

Refereeeeee

We are getting sponsored by Jaegermeister, so I think we may have to reintroduce the stags name!
