Until JT's tinternet is fixed, here is the report from Mansfield's site - seems reasonable by all acounts
Mansfield Colts v Derby Colts – Home
Mansfield Colts delivered a great team performance defeating a strong Derby side 24-5 at Eakring Road on Sunday morning to finish 2006 in style. Missing a number of players through representative duties, injury or family commitments including 3 in the front row, the Colts had to call up four U17's who made their Colts debuts and didn't let themselves down against a very big Derby pack. Mansfield opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Fly Half Alan Symcox picked up a loose ball and was able to get over the line, he then converted his own try. The lead was further extended on 25 minutes when the outstanding Phil Donaldson won back possession in his own half, the ball was released to the backs and outside centre Andy Zacharia cut back on a superb line running 50 metres to score under the posts. Symcox added the conversion. With the half time score 14-0, Derby started the second half strongly with only a determined and well drilled Mansfield defence keeping them out. The Mansfield forwards consistently won the ball at the break down and were able to clear their lines. Derby did eventually score after 50 minutes when they awarded a penalty on half way and with the home still debating why it had been awarded, took a quick tap and were allowed to score under the posts although the subsequent conversion was missed. Mansfield lifted their game again winning the re-start and extending their lead almost immediately thanks to a penalty from Symcox. The rest of the game was played out in Derby territory and Mansfield really should have extended their lead spilling the ball on a number of occasions with the try line beckoning. They did eventually score in the last minute when Danny Spencer who once again was immense, ran in from 10 metres to score, Symcox added the conversion to make the final score 24-5. Mansfield goes into 2007 on top of their league and looking forward to a New Year game against second placed Chesterfield.
