Whilst visiting a few rugby sites I spotted these rates for membership at Ealing RFC (just promoted to Div 3 South). Interesting!!
Senior Rates Playing Member – £25 per month for 12 months paid by direct debit. Total £300 per year.
Student Playing Member – £14 per month for 12 months paid by direct debit. Total £168 per year.
Occasional Player - £85+ £10 per game
Non-playing member – Minimum of £50
Junior Rates £100 per annum per family + £15 for each playing child.

If a meister played every game next season he would pay between £70 - £140 at last years match fees. As no-one in the squad played every game last season and that no-one is guaranteed a game as the squad is approximately 25 players, I'd want a lot more from the club ie better food, kit, etc before I agreed to give the club £300.

I assume they don't pay match fees at Ealing?
Graham, you can't get better kit than the mighty meisters shirts!
Nelly didn't miss a week last season (he did play one game for the devs though!)
Still, £300 is expensive, although direct debit could be the way forward! |

Very true Tim, but not all teams have such a great kit!!! With such fantastic sponsors!!!!
Direct debit could be the way but a more realistic price for those of us that have far less than the average Ealing player!!
Well done Nelly, a great effort!!

| Yes £300 is too much, I was not suggesting we should charge that, just putting it up as an example of what it is elsewhere for those who seem to go out of their way to avoid paying both annual subs and match fees. I'm sure there are other clubs where it may be £30 a year and £3 a match, but are they also manning the bar themselves, bringing in the flags etc... |

That is also a fair point. If we could find a happy medium, that would benefit the club but not put the players out of pocket. Probably more like £20-25 for 8 months.

There is a happy medium. You pay just £60 membership, which pays for your insurance and general running of the club for 1 whole year, and just £5 per week which pays for the running of the rugby section, including showers Tuesday thursday and saturday, pitch marking and cutting, laundry, oposition food, tea after game, cleaning the changing rooms, petrol for away games etc etc..... So for 30 games, a total of £210, Maybe the happy medium is that everybody pays £7.50 per week for a game ( extra 50p to allow for loss of interest in not getting the £60) BUT how many players disappear before paying mtch fees? Maybe these should be collected BEFORE the game, and if you don't pay, you don't play! |

| Now we are getting radical Norm - particularly like the 'pay before' suggestion, could even be applied to annual membership, now that would be novel for some!! |

| I think it should be no pay no play with regard to annual subs. Although we'd probably have to move 7's season to the first month due to lack of players!! |
